Caravan buying tips
Caravan Industry Association of Australia1 min read
Whether it is your first van or your fourth, a few good habits make for a better buy. Here are the tips that consistently serve caravan buyers well.
Set a realistic total budget
Look past the purchase price to the full cost of ownership: registration, insurance, servicing, tyres, storage, fuel and accessories. Knowing your true budget keeps you focused on vans you can comfortably own and run.
Questions worth asking every dealer
- What is the van’s Tare weight, ATM and payload — and what does that leave me to load?
- What warranty applies, and who handles service and repairs?
- Is the dealer accredited, and what does that cover?
- What is included in the price, and what are genuine extras?
- Can I see the build/compliance plates and any service history?
Take your time
A good dealer will give you space to think, inspect and compare. Be cautious of high-pressure tactics or deals that expire "today only". The right van will still be the right van after you have slept on it.
Use the directory to shortlist accredited dealers near you, compare the brands they carry, and send enquiries to a few before you decide.
